LEGO's and LIFE

Thanks to a very sweet birthday gift from a favorite Aunt and Uncle I was able to put together my first ever LEGO set. A typewriter with flowers on it (so very me lol). I wasn't sure how well it was going to turn out, or how long my patience would hold out. The first thing I realized is that my determination not to quit, no matter how maddening something gets, is frightening and inspiring. I HAD to finish this typewriter no matter how long it took (it took far less time than I expected). It was not a want, it was a compulsion. It was fun and insane experience. The completion of it was the most amazing feeling lol.

Amid the fun of LEGOs, I also experienced some of the most intense stress and frustration! Three times while adding a piece, a section collapsed, so I had to rebuild from the top. And once, while putting a Lego in place in a very difficult spot, it slipped and shot across the room, and I had to count to ten while trying to find it. Thankfully, it was found soon after, and my Irish temper stayed in its place. My family genuinely enjoyed seeing me get the "full childhood LEGO experience."

You can learn a lot about yourself from building LEGO's haha. I learned I am much more patient and determined than I realized. And I am fiercely driven to finish something I start despite re-sets, setbacks, and even what looks like impossibility. I credited that to my chronic illness journey. Where I've had no other choice but to find ways to continue to create and rebuild. So, although I really did enjoy building the LEGO typewriter, I think to continue to enjoy LEGO's, they would have to be the smaller sets, instructions only via pictures, no words, and be of something I love or am passionate about, lol.

I think new experiences, no matter what they are, especially ones that connect us to our inner child, are so much more important than we realize. We were made to create, imagine, and overcome. I hope we all get back to that soon.

In life and in LEGO's I wish you the best, may the odds be ever in your favor.

Be honest, Be real, Be you!
